Chapter 1: Editorial Board
Article 1: Composition
(1) The editorial board is composed of 1 editor-in-chief and about 10 internal and external editorial board members.
(2) The editor-in-chief is appointed by the chairperson of the academic society, and the committee members are appointed based on the recommendations of the editor-in-chief and approval by the society chairperson.
(3) The members of the editorial board are appointed for a tenure of 2 years and the editor-in-chief is appointed for a period of 3 years in accordance with the academic society’s articles of association, Article 7 (Tenure of Board Members) Item 3 ("The editing director has a tenure of 3 years."); further, consecutive terms are possible.
(4) When editorial board members are replaced, no more than 50% of the total members are replaced.
Article 2: Qualifications
(1) The editor-in-chief’s research results for the previous 4 years must have a yearly average of 200% or more and be acknowledged to be excellent achievements in the field of generative grammar. The editor-in-chief must be a prominent researcher in both domestic and international academic conferences.
(2) The editorial board members are selected from among experts working in universities, university-attached research centers, or research organizations of a similar standard. Their research results for the previous 4 years must have an annual average of 100% or more, and appointments are made considering the members regional distribution.
Article 3: Meetings
The editorial board convenes four times a year (January, April, July, and October), and provisional editorial board meetings can be held at the request of the editor-in-chief.
Chapter 2: Publication Schedule
Article 4.
Studies in Generative Grammar is published four times a year. During this time, an international journal may be released, and the language used is English.
Article 5.
The publication dates and deadlines for manuscripts are as follows:
(1) The publication date for the spring issue is February 28 (February 29 for leap years), and the deadline for manuscripts is January 15.
(2) The publication date for the summer issue is May 31, and the deadline for manuscripts is April 15.
(3) The publication date for the fall issue is August 31, and the deadline for manuscripts is July 15.
(4) The publication date for the winter issue is November 30, and the deadline for manuscripts is October 15.
Article 6.
Submitted papers are sent to the editor-in-chief, and the payments for evaluation and publication fees are sent to the finance director.
Article 7.
The review fee for all papers is 60,000 KRW, which must be paid upon the submission of the paper. The review fee is waived for individual or joint papers by master’s and/or doctoral students. Once accepted for publication, the publication fee will be charged as follows: 150,000 KRW for regular papers without a funding acknowledgement, 300,000 KRW papers funded by off-campus research grants, and 200,000 KRW for papers funded by on-campus research grants. The publication fee must be paid when the editorial decision is made. However, for non-tenure track faculty or graduate students, the publication fee is KRW 100,000 for papers without a funding acknowledgement and KRW 200,000 for papers funded by research grants. If the length of submission including references is longer than 20 pages, an additional 10,000 KRW in publication fees shall be paid for each page exceeding the limit. When resubmitting papers that received a "Reevaluate after Major Revision" decision, an additional resubmission evaluation fee of 20,000 KRW is charged to the author. Scholars who reside in foreign countries can be exempted from the rules on membership, evaluation, and publication fees.
Chapter 3: Conforming to the Research Ethics Committee Regulations and Applying for Publication and Evaluation
Article 8.
As a rule, the right to submit to Studies in Generative Grammar is given to the members of our academic society, and a single author can publish papers in Studies in Generative Grammar twice a year.
Article 9.
Papers must be written in accordance with the rules of the Research Ethics Committee of the Korean Generative Grammar Circle, and the publication of submitted papers is determined by an evaluation procedure carried out by three reviewers.
Chapter 4: Manuscript Submission Method
Article 10.
When submitting the manuscript for publication after decision of publication, the authors’ and co-authors’ information, including affiliation and rank, must be clearly stated in the submitted manuscript.
Article 11.
For the research which involves an experiment on human beings or living creatures, it is in principle mandatory for the author(s) to submit an approval or exemption letter issued by a bio-ethics committee of the author’s affiliated institution or an equivalent committee.
Article 12.
Submitted manuscripts are written in Korean or English.
Article 13.
When submitting a paper for review, send a Hangul 2007 or higher document and/or PDF file. Authors who reside in foreign countries are allowed to send a Microsoft Word 2007 or higher document.
Article 14.
For instructions on how to format a manuscript prior to submission, refer to "Studies in Generative Grammar: Style Guidelines," which is provided separately.
Article 15.
Manuscripts are submitted through an online submission system (JAMS). Before submitting a manuscript, the evaluation and publication fees are paid to the finance director, and the editor-in-chief is notified of the result of the payment and submission at the time.
(1) New Paper Submission: Register with https://kggc.jams.or.kr/ and click [Submit New Paper]. Read the research ethics agreement, enter the names of all the authors of the paper, and give consent to the agreement. Upload the bibliography data and the paper file.
(2) Revised Paper Submission: After logging in, click [Tasks Awaiting Completion]. The number of papers appears in "Revised Papers Awaiting Submission." Click it to go directly to the corresponding menu. Read the evaluation committee members opinions and the general review. Make revisions according to the evaluation member’s opinions, and submit an evaluation response form. Submit the revised paper file. For revised paper submissions, the papers evaluation review reverts to "Publication Possible" until a judgment is made.
Chapter 5: Selecting Evaluation Committee Members
Article 16.
(1) For each submitted paper, the editor-in-chief selects the members of the evaluation committee from among those of the editorial board. Three members with the same specialty as the subject of the paper are selected. However, if there are less than three editorial board members with the same specialty, a selection is made based on the suggestion of evaluation committee members.
(2) If the submitter is affiliated with the editor-in-chief, the associate editor-in-chief selects the evaluation committee members so that the submitter and reviewers do not belong to the same organization.
Chapter 6: Evaluation Process
Submitted papers are subjected to a two-step evaluation procedure. In Step 1, the researchs originality is verified, and in Step 2, a decision on publication is made by the evaluation committee members based on specific evaluation items.
Article 17 : The First-Step Evaluation Items and Evaluation Method
(1) Before the manuscripts submitted to the journal actually begin to be reviewed by the panel of reviewers selected by the editorial board, the editing panel determines whether the content of the manuscript is appropriate for the journal and whether it has originality that differentiates it from existing research.
(2) When the paper is submitted, the authors must fill out and sign a request for evaluation, which includes a research ethics agreement, and this is considered an agreement to receive the first evaluation regarding the journals regulations and originality.
(3) The author personally logs into our online submission site and checks the presence of plagiarism using the "KIC Text Similarity Check Service" or "Copy Killer Similarity Checker."
Article 18: The Second-Step Evaluation Items and Evaluation Method
(1) In the evaluation of papers, the standards checked include originality, an understanding of preceding research, the appropriateness of paper structure and research methods, the validity of the argumentation process, and the appropriateness of the English abstract. The possible decisions include publish without changes, publish after changes, reevaluate after major revision, and cannot publish. The specific standards of judgment are as follows:
- Publish without changes: The sum of the scores for each item is 25 points out of a possible total score of 25.
- Publish after changes: The sum of the scores for each item is 20 to 24 points out of a possible total score of 25.
- Reevaluate after major revision: The sum of the scores for each item is 15 to 19 points out of a possible total score of 25.
- Cannot publish: The sum of the scores for each item is 0 to 14 points out of a possible total score of 25.
(2) The ultimate decision on whether the paper should be published is made through a meeting of the editorial board. The papers that receive the decision "Publish without changes" or "Publish after changes" from at least two out of the three evaluation members are published after changes are made. Those that receive a decision of "Reevaluate after major revision" from at least two out of the three evaluation members are reevaluated after major revision are made. The papers that receive a decision of "Cannot publish" from at least two members are not published.
(3) If a paper marked "Publish after changes" is reviewed by the evaluation committee chair and it is decided that the changes made to the paper are insufficient, further changes may be requested or publication may be postponed.
(4) If a paper receives a decision of "Reevaluate after major revision", a revised version must be submitted within 90 days. If the author fails to submit a revised version for no justifiable reason, the paper will be evaluated as “Cannot publish.”
(5) If a submitted paper is suitable for the purpose and subject area of this journal, it may be evaluated as “Cannot publish” and rejected.
Article 19.
(1) The editor-in-chief shall inform the author of the result of the paper review within one week.
(2) If there is an objection to the review results, the author (the first author or the corresponding author) may object to the decision within 30 days after receiving the results. The editor-in-chief shall appoint three new reviewers for the paper review. A new round of review shall be completed within 60 days, and upon the completion of the review, the editorial board shall immediately inform the author(s) (the first author or the corresponding author) of the results.
Chapter 7: Manuscript Publication and Copyright
Article 20.
The editorial board evaluates submitted papers according to its regulations and determines whether the papers should be published. The papers that they decide to publish appear in Studies in Generative Grammar.
Article 21.
The individuals who submit to this journal must transfer their published papers copyright to the Korea Generative Grammar Circle according to the current regulations. The entire copyright, including public display, publishing, and sale, of a paper published in Studies in Generative Grammar belongs to the Korean Generative Grammar Circle.
